Critical Thinkers • Innovators • Problem Solvers

Exploring the Careers of Tomorrow

The careers of tomorrow require the schools of today to be nimble, creative and innovative. In order to be ready for a rapidly changing workforce, education must help students learn to think differently, solve big problems, innovate and design solutions. Indy STEAM Academy (ISA) is preparing the students of today for the careers of tomorrow through junior internships, job shadowing and high quality teaching and learning.

STEAM is an acronym for Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics. At ISA, we are focused on teaching STEAM skills and foundational subjects, like reading and writing, that students will need to succeed in STEM careers, while also introducing them to opportunities that exist right here in Indianapolis.

Learning Within our Walls

Our students actively engage with STEAM learning and challenges; they are critical thinkers, innovators, and problem-solvers. Indy STEAM students learn by doing – with hands-on science experiments and engineering projects that create dynamic solutions to real-world problems.

Highly certified teachers lead students in an exploration of real world problems and challenges.

From Kindergarten through 6th grade, students are introduced to, and eventually lead, the engineering design process and the science inquiry processes. Our science and computer labs are equipped with state-of-the-art technology and resources, providing students the opportunity to investigate, plan, problem-solve, create, evaluate, reflect, and retool.

We use our extended day of after-school clubs to keep the STEAM focus going. At Indy STEAM, our students learn computer science skills, explore engineering by building things and creating objects, and enjoy STEM competitions like robotics, Lego, and coding. We also offer summer school to help students strengthen their skills.

Learning Outside our Walls

We extend our learning outside of our school walls by connecting our students to the community of Indianapolis.

Our K-6 students will have the opportunity to participate in job shadowing and junior internships in local science, technology and engineering industries. They’ll gain experience and the belief that they, too, belong in high-wage, high demand jobs. Truly unique to Indy STEAM Academy students, our Kinders to fifth graders visit STEM companies to learn what they produce and the roles of engineers and scientists

We also take field trips to visit science museums and local businesses. Exploring our community together, and the impact of STEAM in our world, is highly engaging and motivating. During our fall, winter, and spring breaks, our elementary students visit college campuses to learn about college life and the collegiate programs available.

We invite you to explore all that Indy STEAM Academy offers your child inside and outside the walls of our tuition-free public school. Save your child a seat for the 2022-23 school year today.
