Our days at Indy STEAM Academy are jam packed with authentic learning, hands-on explorations and challenging projects. We use every minute of the day and every resource available to develop critical thinkers and problem solvers. And we do it all in our beautiful purpose-built building on Sherman Drive. Indy STEAM promises to invest our time, expertise and energy into helping students go on to be the STEAM leaders of tomorrow. 

What Does Hands-On, Minds-On Mean?

The greatest tools we are given for exploring the world are our hands and our minds. Indy STEAM Academy harnesses children’s natural desire to explore and investigate with our dedicated STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) curriculum. We know that learning is not just a one-and-done process, rather it’s a cycle of questioning and exploring, investigating and reflecting. The best way to learn the principles of STEAM is hands-on, which makes our curriculum highly engaging to growing minds.

All K-6 students at Indy STEAM Academy enjoy 90 minutes a day of science and engineering instruction–a remarkable amount of time in today’s reading- and math-driven education climate. During this time, our expert teachers engage students in the engineering design process and the scientific process. It’s our students favorite time of the school day!

Some of the topics you’ll see your students apply their minds to include: building scalable -sized bridges, simple machines, water filtration systems, and solar ovens. Our K-6 students learn about landslides, wildfires, recycling and ecology. We also offer investigations into robotics and coding and even an after school LEGO club.

At Indy STEAM, the arts aren’t just a fun activity left for Friday afternoon, they are an integral part of our teaching. Students are introduced to drawing, painting, ceramics, weaving, theater and dance. We know that music has a way of accessing both sides of our brain, which is why we offer instruction in piano, guitar, xylophone and violin, as well as an after-school choir and band for students interested in taking their musical talent further. 

State-of-the-Art Facility

Inspiring places inspire great learning. We’ve designed our school campus to go above and beyond the basic four walls to create a state-of-the-art facility with innovative learning technology. Our purpose-built school has been the gem of our first year together providing many opportunities to learn and build community.

In the computer lab, students practice coding, animation and more. 1:1 computers and Smart Boards in the classrooms mean our students are hands-on learning in every grade from K-6. Our youngest scholars learn keyboarding, how to type and enjoy coding using our computer science curriculum. Older students glean research and presentation skills alongside engineering design challenges.

Students love visiting our science labs to experiment and test out new hypotheses. Safety is of the utmost importance in each of the labs and students follow the code of conduct for responsible experimentation. 

Breakfast and lunch are offered in our large cafeteria and our beautiful playground is tucked away in the interior of our campus, providing a safe place for our students to stretch their legs and get fresh air.
