Intentional School

What does it mean to plan a school with intention and purpose? To Indy STEAM founders, it means to plan with the future in mind. We asked ourselves “What do we want for our children in the future?” And “How will we uniquely help children get there?” Our goals were clear from the beginning: to reduce generational poverty and illiteracy, and prepare our students for college and high-paying, professional jobs after graduation, right here in Indiana.

With clear goals in mind, we planned for a school with a curriculum, staff, and vision that will intentionally and purposefully serve our children and families. Here’s how we do it:

State-of-the-Art Building

We started with securing a state-of-the-art, purpose-built school building to provide the best learning environment for our children. Our building has smart boards, 1:1 computing, and science and engineering labs. Physical education will take place in our beautiful gymnasium and children will enjoy playing on our enclosed playground. Our cafeteria seats all children with plenty of room to social distance.

Longer School Day, Longer School Year

From the beginning, we knew we wanted our students to have more time at school. The Indy STEAM school year is 5 days longer than the traditional public school year. By planning for 7 hours of daily instruction, our students will receive 370 more hours of learning time (which is 52 more days!).

Teachers & Staff

Small class sizes and highly qualified teachers are a powerful combination! Research shows that teachers have the greatest impact on student learning, which is why we have hired certified, experienced teachers to guide and nurture our students on their paths to success.  Class sizes of 15-20 ensure that no one will slip through the cracks and each child will receive personalized attention and support using our ABC Plan.

STEAM Curriculum & More

At Indy STEAM, extracurricular activities aren’t extra: they are built into the curriculum because we know that the arts are an essential part of developing the whole child. Together with music – including violin, piano, guitar, and xylophone; plus drama, modern dance, and ballet; and visual arts like ceramics, pottery, weaving, and painting; our students will experience the joy of art every day.

90 minutes of daily instruction in reading, math, science, and engineering provides children with the 21st century learning skills to succeed. By teaching every subject, we develop the whole child and help them uncover their strengths and passions.

Our social-emotional focus ensures each student chooses respect and knows both how and why to do their best. You can read more about how we grow minds and hearts using the Six Pillars of Character here

Beyond School Hours

A fun, fulfilling day of learning at Indy STEAM doesn’t have to end when the bell rings. We offer before and after extended school care AYS programs so you know your children will be in a safe environment, with fewer transitions, until you can pick them up. In addition to the AYS program, Indy STEAM Academy provides tutoring and homework help, as well as a variety of activities like dance, drama, instrumentals, coding, LEGO, and robotics. If your child has a passion for sports, we also offer basketball, baseball, volleyball, and soccer. There is something for everyone after school at Indy STEAM!

At Indy STEAM Academy, we teach with intention. We keep the end goal in mind as we plan for each part of your child’s day. From the staff’s smiling faces who greet children at the door, to high-quality instruction in our classrooms, our life’s work is to support your child so they can take advanced coursework in high school and college, to get a good job, be productive citizens, and impact their communities for generations to come.
