First Year Success
It has been one school year since we opened the doors of our community charter school to the students of Indianapolis in August of 2021.
What started as a small seed of hope to build a school that would provide the children of Indianapolis access to become the science, engineering and technology leaders of tomorrow, has blossomed into a successful, thriving STEAM school. Dr. Bullock’s vision of a high quality, tuition-free education for all, including those historically underrepresented in STEAM fields, has come to life thanks to the work of many.
As we reflect upon the past year of exciting growth, we extend our thanks to you, our community. It is truly the work and dedication of our village, students, families, board members, teachers and administration that has made Indy STEAM Academy a place for children to grow and bloom.

The school year is coming to an end and our thoughts are turning to planning for next year, but first, we’d like to take a moment to celebrate all that we have done. Here’s a snapshot of the achievements we’ve made in our first year:
-
-
Provided the first K-5 STEAM education in the area, with daily hands-on instruction in science, math, engineering, art and mathematics.
-
Offered an extended school year that gave children a home-away-from-home at our purpose built school facility for 52 more days than traditional schools.
-
Built a community that supports each other and rallies together for the success of our children.
-
Provided after-school care in the form of enrichment clubs like LEGO, coding and robotics.
-
Developed a robust athletics program that includes introductory and competitive sports.
-
Created our first summer school program open to new and returning students.
-
Organized and led field trips to foster student connection to our local community and provide experiential learning.
-
Offered music instruction and lessons to grow the musical talents of our students.
-
Served breakfast and lunch to all students in our spacious cafeteria.
-
Delivered 90 minutes of daily literacy and mathematics instruction, as well as after-school tutoring and an extra 60 minutes of built-in support to ensure foundational learning.
-
Hired a staff of certified, dedicated teachers and administrators committed to the mission of our school.
-
Created a plan to expand our school to 6th grade for the 2022-23 school year so our students can have continuity in learning.
-
Most importantly, our students feel supported in their school experience. We couldn’t say it better than our students:
“What I like about Indy STEAM is the teachers are nice. I like art and gym and violin. They treat us fairly and they care about us.”
–London 3rd Grade
“I have a lot of opportunities here and I love how everyone is caring for one another. People and students are nice and kind to me.”
–Drew 5th Grade

We are proud of our accomplishments and the community we serve. We hope you will consider joining us in our mission and choose a bright future for your K-6 student. We’re enrolling now for Fall 2022.
