We’d like to introduce another new staff member this week. Swathi Ananth has joined Indy STEAM Academy to teach our 5th grade students. Read on to learn a little about Ms. Ananth, including what inspired her to become a teacher and what she loves to do in her free time. Welcome Ms. Ananth! 

When did you know you wanted to be an educator?

I knew I wanted to be a teacher since childhood. I would watch my teachers and admire being in their place one day. I enjoyed the authority teachers had back in my childhood and as I grew, I realized that I can also help grow young minds into their wonderful futures. 

Who was your favorite teacher and why?

My favorite teacher was my math teacher in middle school. I have loved math since childhood. The number of operations and applications that come from just these few numbers amazes me. My teacher supported me academically, emotionally and socially to help me understand the big picture in life and know what exactly I want to do. 

How does Indy STEAM Academy’s mission align with your personal values?

I agree that technology and digitalization is the future of us all. And Indy STEAM Academy does that exactly by helping young students learn these skills early. 

What do you love most about your role at Indy STEAM?

I love being with the children all day. I love to watch their innocence, listen to them, guide them and understand them. It’s like living my childhood over and over again.

What else would you like us to know about you? 

I was born and raised in india. I live in Fishers with my husband and I have a 5 year old daughter. My hobbies include dancing, hanging out with friends and traveling with family.
